What is floor sanding?
Floor sanding refers to the process of removal of a wooden or timber floor’s top surface to restore its shine. Floor sanding is done using a variety of abrasive materials including sandpaper.
How often do I need to get my floor sanded?
Well, that really depends on the condition of your floor, the foot traffic it experiences, exposure to sunlight, and, of course, your budget! However, at Extreme Timber Flooring, our sanding experts recommend getting basic floor sanding done once every five years to maintain the life of your timber floors.
Is floor sanding expensive?
It is a common myth that restoring your floor is more expensive than replacing it. On an average, floor sanding by professionals will cost you anywhere between $30 per sqm to $60 per sqm. This does vary with the condition of the floor – older, worn out floors are slightly more expensive to sand than regularly maintained ones. The cost of fixing broken or chipped floor is over and above this. Extreme Timber Flooring offer no-obligation, free quotes for floor sanding projects.
How long will it take for the sanding project to be finished?
DIY sanding projects take much longer than if you get this done professionally. Professional sanders at Extreme Timber Flooring not only have industry-grade equipment and material but also much more experience sanding timber floors across a range of residential and commercial properties in SA. It takes approximately 2-3 days for our team to sand rooms up to 50 sqm. For bigger areas, we can finish the sanding project in 3-4 days.
What do I need to prepare my property for floor sanding before your team moves in to execute the project?
When you choose us for your floor sanding project, you really don’t have much to worry about – we take the hassle out of the whole sanding experience for you! There are, however, a couple of things you should do before the day of sanding to make it a smooth process.
- Remove furniture in the area targeted for sanding. You will be able to put smaller pieces of furniture back in place within 72 hours of floor sanding being completed. Rugs and bigger pieces of furniture can be moved back after 7-10 days.
- It is also advisable to remove any electronic devices from the targeted area. If some devices cannot be moved, cover them properly to prevent any damage from the minimum sanding dust that may arise.
- If you have carpeted floors, we can remove the carpets along with the underlay and dispose them off for you if required.
- Lastly, some of the sanding products we use might leave a strong smell. Moreover, the sound from sanding machines can often be disrupting. Therefore, we advise you to not be present in the targeted area while our team is sanding the floors. Make that salon appointment, get your car serviced or just catch up with friends over wine and cheese while we restore your floors for you!
